An anonymized string created from your email address (a "hash") may be shared with the Gravatar service to check whether you use it. You can read the Gravatar privacy policy at automattic.com/privacy. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public alongside it.

Media

If you upload images to the website, avoid uploading ones with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the site can download and extract location data from any images posted here.

If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in a cookie, so you don't have to re-enter them next time. These last one year.

When you log in

Visiting our login page sets a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies; it holds no personal data and disappears when you close your browser. Logging in sets a few more cookies to save your login and display choices — these last two days, or two weeks if you select "Remember Me." Logging out removes them.

When you publish

Editing or publishing an article saves an additional cookie containing only the post ID, with no personal data. It expires after one day.

Embedded content from other websites

Pages on this site may include embedded content — videos, images, or articles — from other sites. This content behaves exactly as if you'd visited that other website directly.

Those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor how you interact with that content, including tracking your activity if you're logged into an account there.

If you request a password reset, your IP address is included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely, so follow-up comments from the same person can be recognized and approved automatically rather than held for moderation.

For registered users, we store the information in their user profile. Every user can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time, except their username. Site administrators can also see and edit that information.
