In Part 2 of our blog, let’s focus on what needs to be done and what’s happening to close the pay gap.

What Canada Is Doing About It

Progress is slowly being made. The Pay Equity Act, came into effect for federal regulated workplaces in 2021. This requires employers to ensure women and men are being paid equally for work at an equal value.

Many provinces have their own pay equity laws and transparency initiatives, but enforcement and awareness varies. Although, legal actions are only a part of this solution. Structural and cultural changes are just as important and needed.

What We Can Do—Together

To better close this pay gap in Canada, we need group effort:

Support pay transparency

Encourage women in leadership

Invest in safe childcare and family support

Challenge stereotypes

Educate and empower

Closing the Gap Is Good for Everyone

When women get paid fairly, communities can grow stronger, families will be more secure, and the economy can benefit. According to the Canadian Center for Policy Alternatives, by closing the pay gap, this could add billions of dollars to Canada’s GDP.

At Roses Life Women Center, we are committed to empowering, supporting and advocating for women’s economic justice. By working together, we can make equal pay a reality not just a goal. Progress takes persistence, time and unity. Every action, whether its big or small is important and brings us closer to a more even future between men and women.

#EqualPayCanada #GenderEquity #WomenEmpowerment #PayEquity

In Part 1, we discussed why pay inequality still exists in Canada in 2025.
