Leaving an abusive relationship can be a long, complicated, and painful process followed by survival, fear, hope and many different circumstances.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why Women Stay<\/strong><br>Women stay for many reasons, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Emotional attachment and hope things may change.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fear of what could happen if they try leaving.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Guilt, shame, or fear of being judged.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Isolation from their support systems.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Concern for children and family stability.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Financial dependence or uncertainty.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abuse often includes manipulation, gas lighting, control and many repeated cycles of harm which are often followed by promises, affection or apologies. Over time, this can make leaving feel dangerous and overwhelming.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Breaking Judgment\u00a0<\/strong><br>Asking \u201c<em>WHY\u201d <\/em>she stayed can add blame on the person who is harmed. A better question is<em>: \u201cWhat was making it so hard to leave?\u201d\u00a0<\/em><br>When we shift the conversation, we can start to better understand that staying is usually about <strong><em>survival<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>not weakness.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Choosing Compassion<\/strong><br>Many women who leave, have spent months or even years trying to protect themselves, children, and their future.
